Projections Film Festival 1st Annual Western Film Festival

Projections Film Festival

Projections Film Festival was organized by the Whatcom Film Association, and was held in Bellingham, Washington November 8-11, 2001. Both Authorship and Gonzo were screened to the unsuspecting public, with pretty good feedback. Alas, our betters got the awards, but we got some coverage from the Take Five section at the Bellingham Herald. Gonzo screened at the Pickford Cinema to an underwhelming but committed audience, and Authorship was screened twice, once in the American Museum of Radio and later that night at the 3B Tavern. Response was lukewarm, but this was also four hours after the scheduled start time.

Overall, the screenings went well, and we look forward to next year's awards. Congrats to fellow Fairhaven College filmmaker Dan Hammill for his Best of Projections win for The Fabulous Bakettes. Sabrina, Sean, Brendon and Dansen all showed their support and I love them and will marry them all at a more appropriate time when polygamy becomes legal.

Elaine and I at the 3B Tavern, waiting indefinitely for "Authorship." Dansen lost a penny, and he actually went under the table to look for it. He peeked up various dresses while at it. Brendon attending the "Authorship" screening at the 3B Tavern. Cody and Michelle Luff, cool cats they are.

The program. Sabrina came all the way from Federal Way to watch "Gonzo!" She's a Superstar! Yeah! I know! Sabrina on the big screen. And some woman's head. Cover of Take Five.

5th Annual Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF)

The VAFF was held at the Cinemark Tinseltown Theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia, November 2-3, 2001. Authorship was screened to a small crowd who seemed to approve, but had no questions to ask me. I hopped in place while in search of words when I was speaking to the crowd. It was entertaining for Elaine who enjoyed watching me bounce. Brendon and Maralise also attended the screening, which was quite aurally assaulting. Sean showed up a bit late, and missed the screening, but we all went on to Chinatown to check out badly titled copies of DVDs. ("Finding For Rester" one of them read.) I also got to hear Brendon describe a 300 pound prostitute, which was the highlight of my evening. Well, that and having a bit of the boozies at Tops and giggling like morons.

The cover of the program. I had my own pass. It was so cool I wore it to bed and woke up knowing my own name.

The 1st Annual Western Film Festival

The 1st Annual Western Film Festival was held at Western Washington University, May 17, 2001. President Andrew Hu reminded me of me, because he was running the whole show solo. After about two hours of painful footage, they screened Gonzo. At which point, everyone had either left or collapsed from excessive epilepsy fits. But hey, we won an award.

Looky, an award for Gonzo!
